Shutdowns

Technical on-site support for planned shutdowns

Planned maintenance or an unplanned outage: KLINGER technicians are ready for fast, expert on-site interventions. We work closely with your team to minimize downtime and get the installation back into operation as quickly as possible.

Planned maintenance

An unplanned outage costs an average of tens of thousands of euros per hour in an industrial environment. But planned shutdowns also bring pressure: tight time windows, multiple contractors, and zero tolerance for errors during restart.

Situations where KLINGER makes the difference:

  • Unplanned downtime due to a defective component that needs to be replaced quickly
  • Annual or periodic shutdown where multiple interventions are planned simultaneously
  • Complex flange or valve work requiring specialist knowledge
  • Installations where safety and compliance are non-negotiable

Our approach

  • Preparation: a good shutdown begins long before the outage. KLINGER works with your team on a detailed scope of work, material package, and schedule โ€” ensuring every minute of downtime is productive.
  • On-site execution: our experienced technicians perform the work according to the agreed scope: replacement of gaskets, valves, steam traps, or other components, flange assembly in accordance with EN1591-4, or support for broader maintenance tasks.
  • Quality control & documentation: every task performed is documented: what was replaced, by whom, and according to which standard. You receive a complete as-built report afterward โ€” useful for your maintenance history and compliance file.
  • Restart & verification: after the work, KLINGER supervises the restart and performs verification measurements to confirm that everything is functioning correctly before you resume production.

For a regular customer in the steel industry, we manage the annual planned shutdown. Within the agreed timeframe, we replace all flange connections and steam traps, among other things. Thanks to this tight planning, the installation restarted without incidents and has been running completely leak-free ever since.
