Result: 6 tons less waste and €38,000 cost savings per unit
In the industrial production of adhesives, filtration plays a crucial role in ensuring quality, process reliability, and sustainability. As part of a broader effort to reduce waste and energy consumption, Henkel partnered with KLINGER Belgium to find a solution for a specific filtration challenge.
The collaboration with KLINGER led to the successful implementation of an innovative self-cleaning filter. The result: a significant reduction in waste and maintenance, increased process continuity, and significant cost savings.

Challenge
From weekly replacement to self-cleaning filtration
Previously, the filtration process required weekly replacement of disposable filter candles, with regular additional pyrolysis to clean the filter housing. This involved downtime, manual labor, and waste production.
After a free trial setup, Henkel chose a compact, self-cleaning Hiflux filter system that could be integrated into the existing infrastructure without major modifications.

After a joint trial setup, Henkel chose a compact, self-cleaning filter system that could be integrated into the existing infrastructure without major modifications. This strategic move translates today into:

Henkel on the collaboration
“The collaboration with KLINGER has led to a future-oriented solution that is both sustainable and efficient. Their filter system aligns perfectly with our ambition to reduce waste streams and optimize our processes. It exceeds our expectations in terms of performance and ease of use. KLINGER has more than proven itself as a reliable partner with deep expertise and customer-oriented service we can count on.”
– Carl Anckaert, Head of Maintenance & Engineering, Henkel
“Our collaboration with Henkel shows how a technically challenging application can still be successfully optimized through co-creation, testing, and mutual trust. This case demonstrates how smart technologies help companies not only meet increasingly strict environmental requirements but also save costs and improve processes.”

Hiflux self-cleaning filter
Self-cleaning filters can be used for applications in every industry
Through automatic cleaning or the continuous removal of unwanted particles from a liquid, more conventional filtration systems with filter consumables that must be replaced at regular intervals—such as candle and bag filters—become less attractive for certain applications. In this way, operating costs can be significantly reduced, and the issues surrounding waste disposal will be completely or largely eliminated. Cleaning is primarily performed by reciprocating or rotating scrapers, driven by an electric motor or pneumatic cylinder.
