Ball valves

A ball valve opens or closes with a single quarter turn and offers a fast, reliable shut-off with minimal pressure drop. It is not without reason one of the most widely used valves in the industry.

KLINGER ball valves are produced in Europe, at KLINGER Fluid Control in Austria and KLINGER Schöneberg in Germany. Thanks to modern, automated production up to DN 1000, strict quality assurance and extensive service, these low-maintenance valves meet the highest requirements of both general industry and the (petro)chemical sector.

Ball valve range

Every application places different demands on medium, pressure, temperature and safety. That is why we offer different product series, each with a wide range of versions.

1. Ballostar ball valves

The KLINGER Ballostar series (including KHA, KHE and KHI) is the all-rounder for industry: robust two- and three-piece ball valves with flange connection, produced at KLINGER Fluid Control in Austria.

Typical applications include steam and condensate, systems with highly fluctuating pressures and temperatures, gas and oxygen, ammonia, contaminated media and applications with high switching frequencies.

Available versions:

  • soft or metal seats (for contaminated or abrasive media)
  • Fire Safe version
  • high temperature up to 425°C
  • Double block & bleed version in 1 housing, with standard face-to-face dimension
  • oxygen version (BAM-approved) and natural gas version (DVGW)
  • District heating, construction according to the EN 488:2019 standard

Thanks to the top flange according to EN ISO 5211, every Ballostar can be automated at any time with a pneumatic or electric actuator.

2. Intec ball valves

intec ball valves

With the Intec series from KLINGER Schöneberg, we offer a complete range of ball valves for the chemical industry: zero emission, optimal process safety and reduced maintenance.

The maintenance-free stem seal with a unique design is certified according to ISO 15848-1:2017 (TA-Luft 2021).

In addition to standard ball valves according to DIN or ASME, the Intec range also includes:

  • metal-seated ball valves for heavy-duty applications
  • ball valves with free outlet, without dead space, for powders and media that polymerize or crystallize
  • high-pressure ball valves and multi-way ball valves
  • sampling ball valves (type K700) for safe sampling without interrupting the medium flow
  • tank bottom valve

3. Double block & bleed (DBB) ball valves

double block & bleed (dbb) ball valve

A DBB system combines two independent shut-off elements (double block) with an intermediate space that can be depressurized (bleed). In the closed position, there is a double seal: any leakage is detected and safely discharged via the bleed connection.

This allows you to block pipes quickly, reliably and in a user-friendly manner, with continuous monitoring of the sealing elements and the possibility of in-line testing. Ideal where safety is absolutely paramount.

4. Monolith KHO: fully welded ball valves

The KLINGER Monolith KHO is a fully welded, underground-mountable ball valve (DN 20 – 300), specifically developed for heating networks and district heating.

The solid cast design and fully welded body are optimized to absorb large external pipe forces, without affecting the sealing system. The KHO is maintenance-free, bi-directionally sealing and certified according to EN 488:2019.

Automation of ball valves

Most ball valves can be equipped with
pneumatic or electric actuators, including limit switches, positioners and solenoid valves. These are assembled and tested in our own workshop, so you have one point of contact for the complete automated valve. Want to know more? Discover our services.

Frequently asked questions about ball valves

1. In what sizes are ball valves available?

KLINGER produces ball valves
up to DN 1000. The available range depends on the series: the Ballostar KHE, for example, from DN 15 to DN 200 (½” – 8″), the Monolith KHO from DN 20 to DN 300. For larger diameters and customer-specific designs, our specialists will be happy to advise you.

2. How much pressure can a ball valve handle?

This varies by version and pressure class. Standard industrial ball valves are typically available in
PN 16 to PN 40 (Class 150/300). For demanding applications, KLINGER supplies high-pressure ball valves up to 400 bar. The permissible pressure is also related to the temperature: always consult the pressure-temperature diagram of the chosen type.

3. What is the difference between a soft-seated and a metal-seated ball valve?

A
soft-seated ball valve (e.g. with PTFE seats) offers an excellent seal for most media and temperatures up to approximately 300°C.

For contaminated, abrasive or crystallizing media, and for higher temperatures, a metal-seated version with wear-resistant coating on ball and seats is chosen.
