Case: corrugated cardboard factory in East Flanders
A corrugated cardboard factory in East Flanders operates a production line with machines from various manufacturers. Within its group, the site scored low on the energy consumption benchmark. This prompted an investigation into the entire steam distribution system.

Challenge
- A low score on the internal energy benchmark compared to other sites in the group
- Serious problems when processing certain cardboard compositions
- A production line with machines from different manufacturers
Solution
Together with a specialized partner, KLINGER delivered a system for adjustable steam pressure and temperature across the entire corrugated cardboard line, featuring control valves, industrial controllers, and supervision software from Baelz:
- Regulation per cardboard composition: the temperature is set at every point of the line according to the cardboard being produced.
- Fast response: the line can switch between heavy double wall and light microflute.
- Central supervision: the entire steam system can be monitored online.

Impact
10 to 20% less boiler fuel.
Additionally, the system enables the following:
- Lower boiler pressure
- Better control of warping and less waste
- Fast switching between cardboard types, even for short orders
